Network of young professionals at United Way of Long Island raises more than $ 20,000 for the Stuff-A-Bus program

The Network of Young Professionals (YPN) of United Way of Long Island celebrated its expected social summer event gathering more than 200 attendees for a net of networking, entertainment and community impact.

The activity carried out on August 7 at the Blue Point Brewery, collected more than $ 20,000 and collected several boxes of school supplies to benefit the initiative of the United Way Stuff-A-Bus program, which provides backpacks and essential school supplies to primary students throughout Long Island, ensuring the necessary confidence to achieve success.

In its 18th. Edition, Stuff-A-Bus continues to guarantee that the children of marginalized communities reach the classrooms prepared to learn and succeed. The funds raised in the summer social event are directly allocated to the purchase of tools for the next school year.

“The donations we have received through the Stuff-A-Bus initiative have had a deep impact on our school community,” said Hannah McCarthy, deputy director of Laurel Park Elementary School in Brentwood.

«Every year, our teachers share useful lists with families, but we know that many students arrive with few articles or, sometimes, without any. Thanks to these donations, our staff can guarantee with confidence that each child has the tools they need to succeed from day one, ”he added.

A moment that Hannah remembers is that of a student who lived in a hostel and arrived at school with his supplies in his arms. When Hannah learned that the girl had lost her backpack and that her family could not replace her, the school was able to provide a new one of her favorite color.

The social summer event was possible thanks to the dedication of YPN co -chants: Justin Merk, of Fourleaf Federal Credit Union; Lauren Grasso, by Ruskin Moscou Faltischek PC; Brendan Bateman, from Flushing Bank; the YPN committee; and the generosity of their sponsors.

Attendees enjoyed craft beers, live shows, significant raffles and opportunities to connect with young professionals passionate about making a difference in their community.
