Salsa will have a special purpose this Saturday, September 26, when Grupo Galé and La Sonora Carruseles take the stage at the Lehman Center for the Performing Arts for the first time to get the Bronx dancing and, at the same time, support the communities affected by the earthquake in Colombia.
The concert will begin at 8 pm and will bring together two renowned Colombian groups in a night of salsa, boogaloo and tropical music. In addition to enjoying their successes, the public will have the opportunity to contribute to a cause that is close to the Colombian community: a portion of ticket sales will go to relief efforts after the earthquake in Colombia.
From Medellín, Grupo Galé, founded in 1989 by composer, percussionist, producer and director Diego Galé, will bring their energetic sound to the Lehman Center stage. With more than three decades of experience, the orchestra has built a solid international audience and has stood out for combining the tradition of Colombian salsa with a contemporary sound.
During the night, the public will be able to enjoy songs such as “Micaela”, “Arranca en Fa”, “La Comay” and “Perdóname”, as well as music from Sentimientos, their most recent album, released in 2025.
Also coming to the Bronx will be La Sonora Carruseles, a group founded in Medellín in 1995 and known for keeping alive the spirit of salsa from the golden age while incorporating its own style. The orchestra will feature the voices of Arnold Moreno, Igor Moreno and Johan Molina, under the leadership of Manolo Puerto and the musical direction of Morist Jiménez Jr.
The combination promises one of those nights where it is difficult to sit still. Between brass, percussion and contagious rhythms, the two groups will bring to the stage a celebration of Colombian music and its connection with the Latin public in New York.
The experience will begin even before the concert for ticket holders in Orchestra’s AJ rows. These attendees are invited to a VIP reception at 6 pm, with wine, beer, drinks and snacks at the mezzanine bar.
The concert will be held at the Lehman Center for the Performing Arts, located on the Lehman College/CUNY campus, at 250 Bedford Park Boulevard West, Bronx. Tickets are priced at $90, $75, $55, $40 and $30.
So get your dancing shoes ready and make room in your schedule. This time, a night of salsa can also become a way to reach out to those who need help in Colombia.
