A wind advisory has been issued for Long Island ahead of a strong nor’easter this weekend.
Therefore, Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine announced the implementation of safety measures throughout the Suffolk County parks system beginning the afternoon of Thursday, September 24; These measures will be re-evaluated on Sunday, September 27.
Beachfront camping activities and vehicle movement in the outer beach areas will be suspended from Thursday afternoon until Sunday, subject to further evaluation.
Additionally, tent camping and the use of campfires will be suspended from Friday afternoon to Sunday afternoon, also subject to reassessment.
The use of recreational vehicles (RV) or hardside trailers is permitted, subject to the conditions of each specific parcel.
Campers are advised to take all possible precautions and prepare for heavy rain and strong, sustained winds.
According to the latest reports, cloud cover will increase on Thursday night and adverse conditions will persist on the coast. Strong winds and heavy rain are expected due to a nor’easter that will ruin outdoor plans for the weekend.
