Last Saturday, September 19, 2026, the inauguration of “El Rinconcito Huachano” took place, a new space dedicated to the gastronomy and culture of Huacho, Peru, located within Cherry Valley Marketplace, in West Hempstead, New York.
The ceremony was attended by distinguished personalities and community leaders, including Oswaldo Del Aguila, consul general of Peru in New York; Herberth Flores, executive director of the Nassau County Hispanic Office; Dr. Sofía Morote, president of PACCLI; Shermelee Carrasco, president of PACCA; and William and Vicky Díaz, representatives of SUMAQ Peruvian Food Festival, as well as prominent community leaders, organizations and Hispanic businessmen.
The owners, Edgar Ávila and his wife, Yulissa Polo Baltazar, were extremely excited and grateful to God for making this dream come true.
Both expressed their special recognition to Manuel Morales, Manager of Cherry Valley Marketplace, for the valuable support and opportunity provided to create this space, where they will be able to share the delicacies and flavors of their homeland, Huacho, in the northern part of Peru.
“El Rinconcito Huachano” was born with the purpose of keeping the roots, traditions and flavors of Huacho alive, offering the community a little piece of Peru on Long Island and sharing our gastronomic wealth with new generations and with the entire community.
