Free skin cancer screenings promoted in Hempstead Township

As the summer season progresses, Hempstead Township Supervisor John Ferretti and the Town Board, in collaboration with Northwell Health, launch the “Summertime Wellness” series; a joint initiative aimed at providing residents with convenient access to preventive health services and wellness resources throughout the summer season.

The “Summertime Wellness” series began with a day of free skin cancer screenings, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, at Town Park Point Lookout.

These free tests aim to encourage early detection of skin cancer, while promoting sun protection and outdoor wellness.

Northwell Health medical professionals perform the exams to help residents identify possible warning signs of skin cancer. The activity is limited to the first 50 participants.

“Summer is a wonderful time to enjoy the township’s parks, beaches and outdoor activities, but it is also important to protect our health while we do so,” said Supervisor Ferretti.

“Through our collaboration with Northwell Health, we are making it easier for residents to receive a potentially life-saving skin cancer screening at no cost. “I encourage everyone to take advantage of this opportunity and make their health a priority.”

Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States, and early detection significantly improves treatment outcomes. Municipal authorities recommend residents use sunscreen, seek shade during peak radiation hours, and schedule regular skin checks.

The Summertime Wellness series will continue with another free skin cancer screening on Thursday, July 16, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, at the Veterans Memorial Park Pool, located at 1700 Prospect Ave., East Meadow, NY.

Following this, “Four Ways to Save a Life” will take place on Thursday, July 23, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm, at the Echo Park Pool Complex located at 399 Nassau Blvd., West Hempstead, NY, where residents can learn essential life-saving techniques and wellness practices.
