Hundreds of children and families smiled at Roberto Clemente, Brentwood, where the vice president of the New York State Assembly, Phil Ramos, organized his annual delivery of school backpacks.
The students received beautiful backpacks with school supplies and the celebration ended with a free concert for the entire community.
Before an abandoned park, today Roberto Clemente Park is a place full of life thanks to the millions of dollars that Vice President Ramos got from the State to renew it.
The delivery of backpacks is part of a community investment plan, which also included a series of concerts during the summer. Saturday’s event marked the last concert of the series.
“This event is more than backpacks. It is to ensure that each child in our community begins the school with the necessary tools to succeed,” said Ramos. “Like the first Latin to serve as vice president of the Assembly, I am proud to support families, because I was also in that same position.”

The August 16 event in Brentwood was possible thanks to the support of the following sponsors:
– Vice President Phil Ramos, Assembly of the State of New York
– Embrace relief
– Long Island Latino Teachers Association (Lilta)
– Four Leaf Federal Credit Union
– Eihab Human Services
– ICNA relief
– Turkish Cultural Center New York

It should be noted that Vice President Phil Ramos represents district 6 of the Assembly, including the areas of Brentwood, North Bay Shore and Central Islip, in Suffolk County, in Long Island.
In 2023, Ramos became the first Latin vice president in the history of the New York State Assembly and, in 2025, he was appointed Dean of the Long Island delegation. It is also part of the working group working group, where it ensures resources for Long Island.
