Within the framework of the celebrations of “Hispanic Heritage Month”, the Nassau County government, led by Executive Bruce Blakeman, and the Office of Hispanic Affairs of this sector of Long Island, in New York, welcomed Alejandra “La Leona” Quintanilla, the first Salvadoran woman to compete in international wrestling and professional circuits in the United States.
Quintanilla was recognized with a “Citation” (honorary diploma) from Nassau County for her achievements and inspiration to the Salvadoran and Hispanic community.
“La Leona” born in San Salvador (El Salvador) has stood out in developing a brilliant career in independent wrestling including participation in the Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL), Major League Wrestling (MLW), All Elite Wrestling (AEW), Ring Of Honor (ROH), among other competitions.
The distinction was presented to Quintanilla on Monday, September 29, 2025, by Herbert Flores, director of the Office of Hispanic Affairs (formerly known as CASA Agency), which is a department of the government of Nassau that contributes to the education, empowerment and general well-being of the Hispanic community.
“The Executive of Hispanic Affairs in Nassau, New York, gave me a Mention of Recognition for my achievements in professional wrestling as a Salvadoran and for representing El Salvador at the national level,” declared Alejandra “La Leona” Quintanilla. “I feel truly blessed and honored by this recognition!” said the brave Central American athlete through her social networks. @Ale_TheLion in X and @alejandrathelion on Instagram.

Celebration of Hispanic Heritage
