The Secretary of National Security, Kristi Noem, and the border tsar, Tom Homan, promised on Monday to reinforce with ICE agents and the border patrol the city of New York, while attacking Mayor Eric Adams for the shooting of the weekend in which an agent of the border patrol, who was out of service, was injured in a Manhattan park.
The statements occurred days after the incident that occurred on July 19 at Fort Washington Park, in Alto Manhattan, which according to the police was an attempted robbery. Secretary Noem reported that the agent, who was shot in the face, can only communicate through gestures.
Although the agent was out of service and without uniform, the NYPD and the National Security Department indicated that the alleged aggressor is Miguel Mora, a 21 -year -old from the Dominican Republic who illegally entered the country in 2023.
After the shooting, the police quickly arrested Mora, who also received a shot from the agent. Criminal charges are expected to face. Despite this, Noem and Homan announced that they will send more federal agents to the city.
“We are going to redouble efforts”
“What we are going to do in a city like this is to redouble efforts. We will put more agents here, more personal, more teams and more training,” said Noem.
Noem: “Mayor Adams could have done more”
Although Biden’s administration partially responsible for allowing Mora to the country in 2023, Noem also blamed Mayor Adams, despite the fact that he has shown a more cooperative attitude with the Trump government than other Democrats, especially since the Department of Justice withdrew the federal case for corruption against him.
On Monday, Noem seemed to blame Adams directly – who seeks re -election as an independent candidate – for implementing policies that, according to her, opened the door to Saturday shooting.
“When I see what Mayor Adams has done with New York City, my heart split to see the families that have suffered for their policies,” said Noem. “We would like to have a better collaboration with Mayor Adams. And I know that there will soon be leadership elections in this city. They start to look at who can make it safer, because the current mayor could have done it better.”

Homan attacks the sanctuary cities
Homan – who had recently shown some proximity to Adams, while the mayor promoted the reopening of an ICE office in Rikers Island – also lashed out at the policies of the Sanctuary City, launching a blunt warning.
“The sanctuary cities are now our priority. If they do not let us enter prisons to arrest criminals in a safe environment, what we will do will be to send more agents to the streets of New York to look for them. So these cities will obtain precisely what they do not want: more agents in the community and in the workplaces,” said Homan.
Mora, who was also injured during the attempted robbery, remains in police custody. Noem announced that a second person, whose identity was not revealed, was also arrested this Monday morning.

ADAMS: Do not blame me, blame Cuomo
During a press conference not related to the issue, Adams responded without directly confronting the Federal Government and, on the other hand, coincided with some of his criticisms of the “thought of the radical left.” He also took the opportunity to divert the guilt towards the former governor and current candidate for mayor, Andrew Cuomo.
“I have nothing to do with the rules that are implemented. I just meet them,” Adams said. “And I am sure that in these three years and seven months that have followed me, they know how outraged that I am with the bond reform laws that Andrew imposed.”
The mayor also agreed with Noem that New Yorkers must carefully reflect on his vote in the next municipal elections.
“I think he is right that we should analyze that issue, but we must also analyze who can direct the city in times of crisis and who has been fighting that radical left mentality,” Adams concluded.
