Legislator Nuñez joins Lynbrook Kiwanis Club at breast cancer event

To mark October as “Breast Cancer Awareness Month” in the United States, Nassau County Legislator Cynthia Nuñez (D – Valley Stream) joined Dr. Sue Burger, the Lynbrook Kiwanis Club and government colleagues at the Lynbrook Public Library on Saturday, October 3, to participate in the Lynbrook Public Library’s breast cancer awareness snack.

The program included a breast health workshop taught by the Maurer Foundation, snacks served by Lynbrook High School’s Key Club, and cupcakes from South Side Middle School—from Special Sweets, an initiative that provides employment and vocational training to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

It is announced that on Monday, October 12, Legislator Nuñez will collaborate with NuHealth to bring the mobile breast cancer screening unit to Gateway Christian Center in Valley Stream, Long Island, NY.

«In the fight against breast cancer, early detection is essential; “This is a message we received loud and clear from the advocates, survivors, and caregivers who shared their experiences during this shocking event,” stated Legislator Nuñez.

“I thank the Kiwanis Club of Lynbrook and the Maurer Foundation for bringing us together in a forum that connected our community with information and resources that can save lives,” added the Democratic official.
