A federal judge arrested the intention of the president of the United States, Donald Trump, to deny funds to cities considered “sanctuary” such as Chicago, Los Angeles, Denver and another 31 more in the whole country.
The Togado William Orrick of San Francisco preliminary ordered that federal funds cannot be cut to the cities considered “sanctuary” and stopped Trump’s controversial policy that sought to affect those districts that have not supported immigration initiatives during the new administration.
With this new resolution, cities such as Boston, Santa Fé, Los Angeles, Portland, Chicago, Oakland, Sacramento, San Diego and two more tens will continue to be supported by federal funds because at the judge’s discretion, cutting the funds is “unconstitutional.”
Three months ago, the Department of National Security (DHS) published a list of more than 500 “sanctuary jurisdictions”, and said that each of them would receive a formal notification that the government had considered them in non -compliance.
The Trump government used this economic pressure against those cities that did not put their local governments based on the operations and plans of the Customs Immigration and Control Service (ICE).
As reported, the Department of Justice has also sued New York cities, Los Angeles and others for their sanctuary policies.
There is no strict definition of sanctuary cities, but the terms generally describe places that limit cooperation with the customs immigration and control service (ICE).
ICE applies immigration laws throughout the country, but requests the help of state and local authorities to identify immigrants sought for deportation and retain them for delivery to federal agents.
In 2017, Judge Orrick had first opposed Trump’s intention, in his first mandate, to cut federal funds, ensuring that this measure apart from unconstitutional, violates “the independence of powers.”
This is the second Judicial Reves Trump receives in 24 hours because this Thursday a Judge of Florida ordered the closure of the Aligator Alcatraz jail in the next 60 days and added that no more migrant can be transferred to this center.
