Peruvian cinema shines in the United States and the New York area is no exception.
The exhibition of Peruvian films “Filmed in Peru 2025” was held for the first time in Long Island captivating all attendees at Huntington Cinema Arts Center, on April 13.
Peruvian cinema is not just entertainment, it is also culture, it is identity.
Directors Ricardo de Montreuil, Joel Calero, Roberto Pazos, Steve Hensicker, said “light, camera, action” demonstrating to the public that Peruvian cinema is a reality that excites and portrays the authenticity of Peru.
The event was held in Long Island with the valuable collaboration of the Peruvian American Chamber of Commerce Alliance (Paccalliance).
The films projected in Huntington were: “This is the u” (“This is the U”) of director Daniel Farfán Salazar; “Mistura” of director Ricardo de Montreuil; and «Family Album» of director Joel Calero.
“It is our fifth year making this exhibition of films and our first time in Long Island,” said the executive producer of Filmed in Peru, Steve Hunsicker.
«I remember when we were in New York, Shermelee (the president of the Chamber of Commerce Paccalliance) went to the event and told us they have to bring this movie showcase to Long Island, and here we are making the presentations and so far everything has come out very well. We have filled the theater and people have responded very well, ”Hensicker remarked.

Authentic stories
In this festival intimate stories were presented to forceful social portraits highlighting that Peruvian National Peruvian cinema offers a deep and authentic look of what Peru is.
We were able to collect the opinions of the people who saw the movie “Mistura”, including Mayra Fenig, by Glen Cove, who commented, “these are many social problems in Peru, the message is that good things come out of diversity when different people come together, different groups, a message of perseverance that the characters demonstrate.”
At the end of the film the public had a space for questions and answers with the creators. The Peruvian Gloria Robles said, “I could see in the film that many phrases from César Vallejo were mentioned”, to which director Ricardo de Montreuil replied: “I am a fan of Vallejo and that is why I always try to include it in my films.”

For her part, Mrs. Joann Sheehan said, “the film is very sweet and represents the stories of many losses and love,” before that the filmmaker explained, “I feel happy that people are connecting with the film, we have been making several festivals last year, we started in Mid Valley, Morelia, Newport, Santa Barbara, Hamptons … I am happy because the movie has responded to the message of diversity and inclusion.”
It should be noted that “Mistura” is a film that “came out quite fast, was made in less than 2 years and it was because people invested their time in a very interesting way,” said De Montreuil who also explained: “For those who do not know who César Vallejo did not know, he was a Trujillano Peruvian poet, he is considered the first Hispanic modern poet.”

Culture and gastronomy
This Festival «Bilmed in Peru 2025» was presented in Huntington, Long Island, for the collaboration of the Peruvian American Chamber of Commerce Alliance (Paccalliance).
“How we are very satisfied Chamber of Commerce because the audience was quite large, we worked hard with Filmed in Peru to achieve something like that,” Shermelee Carrasco Sherca, president of Paccalliance, told us.
Meanwhile, Ruth Urrutia, marketing representative of this camera, said, “it is gratifying to know that the great event has come here to Long Island thanks to Filmed in Peru. We have exposed Peruvian culture in view of other countries ».
“Not only Peruvians, many people from other countries have come, and more to see the film is to have a knowledge of what Peru is really, how gastronomy, the film, the actors, such as the dance that was, such as the popularity of the environment.”
«I faithfully believe that Filmed in Peru will cross borders and will reach other places. Many people who have not left the United States in more than 20 years had this space, thanks to them, this will grow and go.

The members of Paccalliance thank the sponsors present at this festival, among them, Adamas reserves who were serving the traditional liquor of the Peruvians, the Pisco, already charge of the delicious food was Joshua Craft Services LLC. “I am Mexican and I was in charge of making a fusion of food and other stews,” Joshua Craft’s culinary businessman told us.
The Festival «Bilmed in Peru 2025» was enlivened by models on behalf of Peruvian culture and by prominent dancers of traditional Peruvian music: the sailor.
The dancers who looked are Ashley Misaray and Brayan Medina who belong to the “Peruvian heart” dance group, and also Christopher Sánchez, Pachamama dancer.

More films
It should be noted that another of great success in “Filmed in Peru 2025” is “Diogenes” by Leonardo Barbuy. “Diogenes is a Greek name, in the Quechua Peruvian mountain range, Greek and Romans names are used,” says the director.
The film is two brothers who are raised in isolation by their father, a painter of a very old tradition. One morning the dad does not wake up and that takes the brothers to a process to know part of his past and connect with his future, ”explained the filmmaker Barbuy.
