In a determined step towards educational equity and access, Empire State University has been associated with Brentwood High School, located in Suffolk County, in Long Island, to launch a unique initiative that offers university business courses in Spanish to high school high -performance high school students.
This innovative program is designed to empower Spanish -speaking students with an early exhibition to higher education and a clear path to a degree in Business Administration (BBA in Spanish) in their native language.
The number of Spanish -speaking students in Brentwood High School exceeds 80% of its student population. The school, recognizing the need for a cultural and linguistically adapted education, has selected 20 outstanding students of 11th and 12th grade to participate in the first cohort of this dual registration initiative.
Luis Camacho, an academic coordinator of the BBA in Spanish and associate professor of business and marketing, said: “Offering a Bachelor of Business Administration completely in Spanish not only recognizes the linguistic wealth of our communities, but also provides students with a specific opportunity to advance academically without giving up their identity.”
In the autumn cycle of 2025, students will begin with the Business Introduction course, followed by marketing in the spring of 2026. These courses are key components of the BBA program in Spanish of Suny Empire and will count both for the completion of the secondary school and for university credit.
Brentwood High School will cover all costs associated with the program, including registration, books and materials. In the school there will be a bilingual teacher in charge of teaching the classes, working in coordination with the teaching staff of Suny Empire. Students will also receive support through the University’s student success office, together with other comprehensive support services.
The program includes personalized orientation sessions to prepare students for university experience, including how to navigate online learning, communicate with instructors and access academic resources.
This collaboration is an important step to increase the educational opportunities of Spanish -speaking students in the Brentwood community and aligns with Suny Empire’s commitment to promote equitable access, diversity and inclusion in higher education.
