Aaron Judge, with a three-run home run, gave the New York Yankees a new opportunity to stay alive against the Toronto Blue Jays in the Major League Baseball playoffs, while the Mariners are one win away from advancing to the American League Championship Series.
Judge hit a 3-run home run and Jazz Chisholm Jr. homered for the “Bronx Bombers,” who came from behind to beat the Toronto Blue Jays 8-6 and stay alive in the American League Division Series.
The Blue Jays, who came out looking to end this duel that is played in the best of five games, took a 1-6 lead in the game, after the Dominican Vladimir Guerrero Jr. started the game with his third home run of the series, producing two runs in the first inning, and they continued attacking in the third inning with a four-run rally, crowned by a two-run single from the Venezuelan Anthony Santander.
The Yankees, who had scored a run in the bottom of the first, reduced their deficit by scoring twice in the third inning on a double by Judge and a sacrifice fly by Geancarlo Stanton, which set the stage for ‘the Judge’ to dictate the sentence in the fourth inning.
Judge, who came to the batter’s box with one out and two men on the bases, managed to hit a pitch from reliever Louis Varland, which hit the left field pole to score a three-run blast that tied the scores and changed the course of the game for the Yankees.
Chisholm Jr. hit a home run in the fifth inning to put the New Yorkers ahead, who had an RBI from the Dominican Austin Wells and a score from his compatriot Amed Rosario.
The Cuban Carlos Rodón started for the Yankees and left the game after 2.1 innings in which they scored six runs, giving way to the relief, which stopped the bats of the Toronto Blue Jays in the rest of the way, standing out among them the Puerto Rican Fernando Cruz, who struck out three in 1.1 blank innings, and the Dominican Camilo Doval, with a blank inning.
The New York Yankees (1-2), who lost the first two games in Toronto, will seek to tie the series this Wednesday, October 8 (7:08 pm ET) when they face the Blue Jays again at the legendary Yankee Stadium located in the Bronx county.
Sailors tame tigers
The Venezuelan Eugenio Suárez, JP Crawford and Cal Raleigh sent the ball out of the park to support the dominant start of Logan Gilbert, and in this way the Seattle Mariners were one victory away from winning the National League Division Series, defeating the Detroit Tigers 8-4.
Suárez homered in the third inning, breaking a 17-0 chain with the bat in the MLB postseason.
Crawford, who finished with two runs scored and two RBIs, sent the ball into the stands in the sixth inning, while Raleigh, who led the regular series with 60 home runs, was in charge of securing the Mariners’ lead with his two-run home run in the ninth inning.
Cuban Randy Arozarena scored and drove in a run and Dominican Víctor Robles had a run scored to contribute to the success of the Seattle Mariners.
The Tigers responded by scoring three times in the ninth inning, but Mexican Andrés Muñoz took the mound and dominated Dillon Dingler with a fly ball to left field and Parker Meadows with a double-elimination hit to put an end to the game.
The fourth game of this best-of-five series is this Wednesday, October 8 at Comerica Park in Detroit (3:08 pm ET).
