A full woman: Eva Cedeño defends in “A.Mar” the right to be a mother … and also to love

Can you be a dedicated mother, a strong woman, an independent professional … and at the same time open the heart to the love of a couple? For Eva Cedeño, the answer is a resounding yes. This is demonstrated with his most recent character in A.Mar, where love weaves his networks, the new Univision soap opera that premiered last month.

In this story produced by Ignacio Sada, Cedeño plays Estrella Contreras, a single mother who, after the unexpected death of her father, is forced to return to her hometown with her daughter Azul (Camille Mina). There he meets Fabián Bravo (David Zepeda), a widower fisherman who also struggles to recover his daughter. Together they discover a second chance in love, although they must face the prejudices, the social pressure and the obstacles of those who want to separate them.

For Eva, this role represents much more than a romantic story: it is an opportunity to embody a modern woman who does not give up any part of herself. “We were looking to tell a real and contemporary story, where moms in their homes can be screened and say: why am I going to leave the love of a couple aside, if I am not subtracting love to my children for loving someone else?” The actress explains in an exclusive interview.

Known for your work in soap operas as I give you life, what happens to my family? And Cabo, Eva Cedeño has built a solid race within the Mexican melodrama, standing out for its charisma, authenticity and commitment to each character. In A.Mar, in addition to exploring mature love, the family drama and the social conflicts that threaten the traditions of the fishe-ro people, Eva immerses themselves in motherhood from fiction, by the hand of the young actress Camille Mina, with whom she claims to have developed an endearing connection.

In this interview, Eva Cedeño tells us about the emotional challenge of giving life to star, how it was to meet David Zepeda in this story full of adversities, and why A.Mar is not only a love story, but also a reflection of so many women who, like her character, fight day by day without neglecting their right to love.

What attracted you most about the character of star Contreras when you read the script for the first time?

Lately, what I am looking for in the characters is that they have something that the previous character has not had. That represent some challenge with which I can face me as an actress. In this case, I think I projected a lot with the stubborn part of Estrella, with that desire to get ahead.

Star is a strong woman, single mother, who returns to her roots … How was the process of emotionally preparing to play such a complex and real role?

I always try to create the characters with an acting coach that has accompanied me throughout my career. For star, we work the maternal part and the part of the couple. Because regularly what happens is that a mother leaves the love of a couple aside for being with her children. Star shows us that you can live the two loves from different places, without the different types of love are confused.

In this case, we look for a more real and contemporary story, where moms in their homes can be screened and say: why am I going to leave the love of a couple aside, if I am not subtracting love from my children for loving someone else?

The novel touches very current issues such as the struggle for custody, single mothers, and the obstacles of true love. Which of these issues resonated more on a personal level?

The love for the family. It caught my attention that star, even having his daughter and living outside his hometown, has the strength to return for his family and get it forward. Not only do he see for his daughter, he sees for his mother, his sisters, and for herself. This feature was something very important to me, to stand out in star.

The mother and daughter relationship between star and blue is very central in the plot. How was it locking with Camille Mina and build that connection on the screen?

The maximum. She is a very talented and very dedicated girl. He has a wonderful sensitivity and knows how to use his resources very well. I have always said that children teach us more than we can teach them, and now I ratify it. For me it was a pleasure to work with her.

You share scene with David Zepeda, with whom you’ve already worked before. How has it been to meet him in this intense love story?

Totally different, because in the previous novel they almost had nothing to do with our characters and now they have everything to do. I had to meet him and it was quite enjoyable and quiet.

In addition to romance, there are social conflicts: fishing, the traditions of the people, economic power … How do these issues intertwine with the drama of the characters?

As David’s character is involved in the Fishermen’s union, and also the person with whom I had my daughter 10 years ago returns to the town and wants to put a larger fishing, artisanal fishing is in the background. Then the fishing, the industrial part and the economic interests are involved, because there are the new and old love of star struggling to stay in the same town that the protagonist is defending.

What has been the challenger to play star? And what have you enjoyed the most?

The most interesting thing was to see how different loves can be lived without one step on the other. I thought it was going to be more complicated, but with the understanding of the character and also the plot, I think it was a very beautiful and very strong character.

And finally, what would you say to all those who still don’t know if seeing “A.Mar”? Why can’t you miss it?

They cannot be lost because we have great landscapes, stories that go from the little ones to the biggest. Stories of contemporary love that are rarely seen on television.
