The Copiague School District welcomed its students with enthusiasm, energy and lots of smiles on September 2, the day they returned to the classrooms to begin the 2026-27 school year on Long Island, NY.
From the youngest students entering kindergarten to high school seniors entering their senior years, students across the district reconnected with friends, met their teachers, and settled into their new classrooms as they embarked on another year of learning and growing.
Teaching and administrative staff were present throughout the morning to welcome students and ensure a smooth and welcoming start to the school year.
In elementary schools, students eagerly explored their classrooms, interacted with their peers, and began to familiarize themselves with their teachers and new routines.
At Middle School and High School, students organized their schedules, reconnected with friends, and envisioned the opportunities, activities, and experiences that await them throughout the season.
As the 2026-27 school year gets underway, the Copiague School District looks forward to a year filled with new discoveries, meaningful connections, and countless opportunities for students to learn, lead, and succeed.
New schools, new beginnings
It should be noted that Copiague Middle School and Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School opened their doors to receive students entering Sixth and Ninth grades, through orientation programs designed to help them make a safe and confident transition to their new educational centers.
These programs gave students the opportunity to become familiar with their new environment, meet teachers and staff, interact with their peers, and learn about routines and expectations that will get them off to a good start.
At Copiague Middle School, students entering 6th grade. grade received their class schedules and met with their teachers while touring the facilities on a day held on August 31. Students practiced following their schedules, locating their classrooms, and using their lockers.
Orientation also allowed students to meet new classmates and begin building friendships before the start of the school year.
Meanwhile, at Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School, members of the class of 2029 were welcomed to the high school during 9th grade orientation. degree, held on August 27.
Principal Joseph Agosta welcomed the freshmen and shared important information about the center’s policies, procedures and expectations.
Afterwards, students divided into small groups and toured the building accompanied by student ambassadors, who helped them learn about the school and answered their questions about high school life.
During orientation, freshmen visited their classrooms, practiced using their lockers, and had the opportunity to network with both new and familiar classmates.
Student ambassadors played a key role throughout the day, providing first-hand information and helping new students feel more comfortable as they prepared to begin their time in high school.
Beyond learning how to navigate and knowing what to expect, orientation programs were designed so that students felt a sense of belonging from the moment they walked through the doors.
By giving them time to explore their schools, ask questions, and make connections, the Copiague School District helps ease the transition into two important new stages of their educational journey.
