Eight Suffolk County Community College students have received the State University of New York (SUNY) Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence, the university system’s highest award for students.
The award recognizes students for outstanding achievements in academics, leadership, diversity, equity, inclusion and justice, campus involvement, civic engagement and service, research and development, and creative and performing arts.
“We take immense pride in the remarkable achievements of these exceptional students,” said Edward Bonahue, president of Suffolk County Community College. «These are students committed to their communities, both at home and at the university; They innovate, dream and achieve their goals. “His dedication and extraordinary efforts demonstrate his exceptional potential.”
The recipients of the “SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence” are:
–Genevieve Burrell, of Calverton, student in Sociology, maintains a 4.0 GPA and has earned Dean’s List recognition every semester for the past two years. She serves as president of the Creative Writing Club, vice president of Phi Theta Kappa, and a peer mentor, in addition to being a Get There From Here Fellow. He is a member of PTK’s Coca-Cola Academic Team.
– Muhammad Fahad Butt, of Lake Grove, Computer Science student, maintains a 3.9 GPA and has consistently received “Dean’s List” recognition. He holds the position of fraternity vice president in Phi Theta Kappa, secretary of the Muslim Student Association, and tutor of the TRIO program; He has also demonstrated his leadership skills by serving as the Suffolk County Community College team leader at the Stony Brook University hackathon. He has also been named a 2026 Hites Scholar and will receive a $7,500 scholarship to support his undergraduate studies.
–Caelan LaPrelle, of Northport, student of Marine Biology, has a 3.7 GPA and is a scholarship recipient of the “Get There From Here” program. He serves as president of the Campus Activities Board, interim president of the Honors Club, and peer mentor. He is also a recipient of the Emerging Student Leader Award and a member of PTK’s Coca-Cola Academic Team.
–Ivanna Moreno, of Brentwood, student of Radio and Television, maintains a 3.8 GPA and has earned “Dean’s List” recognition. She serves as vice president of Public Relations for Phi Theta Kappa, mentors students in the Broadcasters Club, and tutors in the World Language Laboratory. He also produced an original documentary exploring Caribbean identity and various socio-political issues. He is a member of PTK’s New York State All-Team.
–Jazel Negron, of East Northport, Business Administration student, maintains a 4.0 GPA and has consistently received “Dean’s List” recognition. She serves as program coordinator for the Campus Activities Board, peer mentor, orientation leader, and vice president of Phi Theta Kappa Fellowship.
–Zander Pott, Centereach, Psychology student, maintains a 4.0 GPA and has earned “Dean’s List” recognition for the past two years. He serves as Phi Theta Kappa’s Vice President of Service and is an honors student, peer mentor, orientation leader, and tutor for the TRIO program.
–Amelia Sivilli, of Bay Shore, Liberal Arts student, maintains a 4.0 GPA and has earned “Dean’s List” recognition every semester for the past two years. She has held the positions of secretary of the Business and Accounting Club, executive secretary of the Student Government Association, and director of Campus Life and University Committees. He is also active in Phi Theta Kappa and Pi Alpha Sigma.
– William Yeamans, of Mount Sinai, student in Adolescent Education with a concentration in English, maintains a 3.6 GPA and has earned “Dean’s List” recognition every semester for the past two years. He serves as president of the Society of Writers and editor-in-chief of the literary magazine “Perspectives.” He is a member of PTK’s Coca-Cola Academic Team.
