Members of Brentwood High School’s DECA business club competed against thousands of students at the New York State DECA Career Conference, held March 4-6, earning multiple distinctions and qualifying four of the students for an international stage.
More than 4,000 students from across New York gathered in Rochester for the annual competition, where participants tested their business knowledge through written exams, marketing challenges and live presentations to judges.
Ultimately, 4 Brentwood High School students qualified for the 2026 DECA International Professional Development Conference in Atlanta, Georgia, where more than 20,000 DECA members from around the world will compete.
It should be noted that the student Alejandra Obregón obtained a medal for being among the top 10 in the Clothing and Accessories Marketing category, while the student James Baker was among the top 10 in the Entrepreneurship Principles category.
Students Williams Mendoza and Jenifer Sorto Pereira took third place in New York State for their Integrated Marketing Campaign presentation titled “Journeys and Wonders Culture Kits.” The pair also received medals for placing in the top 10 in the overall classification, in the written exam and in the oral presentation.
At the 2026 DECA International Career Development Conference, scheduled for April 25-28 in Atlanta, Georgia, Brentwood High School students will compete alongside top-ranked students from around the world and participate in the Emerging Leader Series, a leadership program focused on goal setting, teamwork and project implementation.
