With a visceral intensity and a deeply human message, Tabula Rasa Dance Theater returns to the scenarios with borders – no borders, a shocking contemporary dance program that intertwines migration, solidarity and Mexican identity. Under the direction of the Felipe Escalante co-diagram, the company will present the World Skown Premiere and the return of Border of Lights from June 20 to 22 at the Museo del Barrio, in Manhattan.
Without borders – not borders part of the premise that Mexicans take their identity beyond any border. Through the body, movement, costumes and light, the proposal seeks to show how culture transcends the geographical, fueled by the collective and individual memories of the migrant experience. The movement becomes testimony of the memories shared by millions of migrants and an act of resistance to the narratives that dehumanize them.
Escalante, originally from Querétaro, Mexico, and founder of the company in 2018, proposes an artistic vision in which the body breaks physical and symbolic limits.
A border of light and dignity
Released in 2023, Border of Lights responds to an increasingly hostile global climate towards migrant people. Through cutting -edge technology, changing room changes and a unique body vocabulary, the piece seeks to make visible the sacrifices, dreams and strengths of those who cross borders in search of a more dignified future.
With dancers from nine countries, the cast of the cast also embodies that radical inclusion message.
Sklling: Women’s force to all gallop
The novelty of the program, Skown, is an electrifying tribute to the female teams of Mexican Charras, famous for their equestrian synchronized routines of high risk. This new work celebrates the elegance, power and inheritance of Mexican women, rooted in indigenous and Spanish traditions.
With an abstract and fierce energy, Escaramuza explores the courage of these “contemporary Amazonas”, underlining the role of women in Mexican culture and in migratory processes.
The functions will take place on June 20, 21 and 22 at 2:00 pm in the neighborhood museum (1230 Fifth Avenue, NY). Tickets are available from $ 0.63 to $ 95 at www.tabularasadancetheater.com.
With each step, jump and turn, Tabula Dance Theater reaffirms that dance can also be an act of memory, denunciation and deep love for one’s own culture.
