The United Way of Long Island Young Professionals Network (YPN) hosted its highly anticipated summer social event at Blue Point Brewery, bringing together more than 120 attendees for an evening of networking, entertainment and community impact.
The August 6 event raised more than $12,000 and collected several boxes of school supplies to benefit United Way’s Stuff-A-Bus initiative, which provides backpacks and essential school supplies to elementary students throughout the Long Island region.
Now in its 18th year, Stuff-A-Bus continues to ensure that children from underserved communities arrive in the classroom confident and prepared for success. Funds raised at the summer social event go directly toward purchasing materials for the next school year.
“The donations we have received through the ‘Stuff-A-Bus’ initiative have had a profound impact on our school community,” said Hannah McCarthy, assistant principal at Laurel Park Elementary School in Brentwood.
“Each year, our teachers share supply lists with families, but we know that many students arrive with few items, or sometimes none at all. “Thanks to these donations, our staff can ensure that every child has the tools they need to succeed from day one.”
The Summer Social event was made possible by the dedication of YPN Co-Presidents Justin Merk (FourLeaf Federal Credit Union), Lauren Grasso (Ruskin Moscou Faltischek PC) and Brendan Bateman (Flushing Bank), as well as the YPN committee and the generosity of its sponsors.
Attendees enjoyed craft beers, live entertainment, raffles, and valuable opportunities to connect with other young professionals passionate about making a difference in their community.
