Reason for the «Frontline Fest»
The cost of health care is one of Americans’ top economic concerns; However, the communities most affected by policies and laws often lack sufficient representation in their development.
Frontline Fest, presented by the Healthcare Education Project (HEP), offers a new model of education and participation, integrating health information into the music, sports and entertainment spaces where people already gather.
The festival comes at a time when New Yorkers face significant challenges in accessing health care, such as new requirements for Medicaid coverage, funding cuts to the Essential Plan and Affordable Care Act (ACA or “Obamacare”) coverage, as well as enormous financial pressures on hospitals and the healthcare sector.
Through its new “Keep Your Care” initiative, HEP will provide attendees with resources to understand these changes and maintain their access to coverage and health care.
The event will also promote nonpartisan civic participation ahead of the November midterm elections, offering on-site voter registration, registration status verification, and opportunities for attendees to make a plan to vote for health care.
It should be noted that the Healthcare Education Project is a joint initiative of 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East and the Greater New York Hospital Association.
Together, both organizations represent more than 450,000 healthcare workers and nearly 280 nonprofit hospitals and continuing care centers. HEP’s mission is to protect and expand access to quality, affordable health care for all New Yorkers through education, advocacy, and coalition building.
