The United States Internal Tax Service (IRS) reached an agreement with the National Security Department (DHS) to exchange confidential taxpayers and help to find undocumented immigrants, within the mass deportation plan executed by the Trump administration.
Both institutions will share information from now on about people who already face deportation orders and who are under federal criminal investigation, including the crime of not leaving the country, according to legal documents compiled by the US press.
“The bases (from the agreement) are based on former powers granted by Congress, which serve to protect the privacy of Americans respectful of the law, while speeding up the persecution of criminals,” said a spokesman for the Department of Treasury to the Fox News chain.
Parts of this 15 -page document where the agreement was reflected – and signed by the Secretary of the Treasury, Scott Besent, and the Secretary of National Security, Kristi Noem – “have been edited, which makes it difficult to determine exactly what information will provide the IRS” specifically, according to the CNN.

Although, the terms of the agreement establish that the Immigration and Customs Control Service (ICE) will present to the IRS the names and addresses of the taxpayers who have allegedly violated the federal immigration laws so that the tax service subsequently contrast the information and confirms its accuracy.
Organizations for the defense of the rights of immigrants and democratic legislators have strongly criticized the Trump administration for trying to use IRS data to facilitate deportations.
In addition, it also emphasizes that it can be a first step for contributing confidential information to be accessed without the need to obtain a court order, as required by law.
“The IRS has breached its duty to protect the information from taxpayers from undue dissemination,” said lawyer Nandan Joshi, who works with the non -profit organization Public Citizen, after the agreement.
April 15 is the last day for Americans to present their Federal Tax Declaration of 2024 to IRS.
