The FESFUT convened for this Tuesday in its social network account X to a press conference for “the official presentation of Professor Hernán Gómez” as “new technical director of the National Team of the Major” with a view to overcoming the qualifiers to the 2026 World Cup.
Before this publication, the president of the Government National Institute of Sports of El Salvador (INDES), Yamil Bukele, had advanced in X the designation of the Colombian.
“We welcome the new coach of the SELECTA: Professor Hernán Darío Gómez,” Bukele published in his X account and said that the welcome is given “together with the fesfut authorities.”
He said: “We believe that this is a unique opportunity to achieve the goal of seeing a national team of major football in a World Cup.”
This Monday, the FESFUT announced the departure of the Spanish David Dóniga, who directed “La Selecta” since January 2024.
Dóniga managed to break a streak of more than two years of not winning, classified El Salvador to the Gold Cup 2025 and amounted to this selection to the Concacaf League A.
The ‘Bolillo’ has directed the selections of Colombia, Ecuador, Guatemala, Panama and Honduras, in addition to the Colombian teams Atlético Nacional, Santa Fe, Independiente Medellín, Junior and Golden Eagles.
Gomez has been a World Cup, as a coach, with Colombia in France 1998, with Ecuador in Korea-Japan 2002 and with Panama in Russia 2018, in addition to having been a technical assistant of Francisco ‘Pacho’ Maturana with the coffee team in the World Cup citations of Italy 1990 and the United States 1994.
