The first Hispanic Woman owner/operator of McDonald’s on Long Island

The Ecuadorian Maria Kaufman has made history by becoming the first Spanish -resident Hispanic woman of New York who owns McDonald’s on Long Island.

Along with her husband, Josh Kaufman, owner/operator of McDonald’s, Maria Supervisa nine restaurants from McDonald’s, with six locations in the Long Island area and three in Brooklyn’s New York county.

Born and raised in Ecuador, Maria grew up in a working home that valued perseverance and dedication. His relationship with McDonald’s began almost 20 years ago, and Maria began the process to become owner/operator of McDonald’s.

As the owner of a local and resident business of Long Island, Maria regularly contributes to her community through voluntary work. This is his inspiring story of success and overcoming.

Growth and opportunities

Since Maria Kaufman became an operator in September 2024 and joined her husband, Josh Kaufman, owner/operator of McDonald’s, she supervises 9 McDonald’s restaurants under her organization called Kaufman Food Services.

With 6 restaurants in Long Island and 3 in Brooklyn, Maria is dedicated to promoting growth and opportunities within their restaurants and in the communities they serve.

Originally from the city of Ambato, Maria completed her education in Ecuador, obtaining her title as a veterinarian before emigrating to the United States. His link with McDonald’s began almost 20 years ago through his relationship with Josh, whose family has been in the McDonald’s business in the New York Metropolitan Region for decades.

Before moving to the organization’s business side, Maria actively involved helping restaurants employees to access English classes through McDonald’s English under the Arches, a program of Archways to Opportunity, the emblematic program of Education and Profession restaurants.

Eight years ago, Maria began the process to become an owner/operator of McDonald’s, completing the necessary course and acquiring practical experience in the restaurant operation.

Then, he made a temporary change and joined his father -in -law to supervise McDonald’s construction and maintenance projects.

In 2020, Josh and Maria created Kaufman Food Services, launching their own business. In 2023, Maria was invited to run again for the program and completed the process in a few months, before officially becoming owner/operator of McDonald’s.

“Becoming the owner/operator of McDonald’s has allowed me to continue chasing my passion to give back to my community,” Maria said.

Now being in this position, where I can continue supporting our community and businesses, is really gratifying, and I hope to start this new trip with my family ».

Community contribution

As the owner of a local and resident business of Long Island, Maria Kaufman regularly contributes to her community through voluntary work, including in her local temple and having previously served at the Board of the Museum of Arte Heckscher and in Family Service League.

Its organization also collaborates regularly with local schools, organizing events throughout the year and supporting initiatives that benefit students and their families, including an annual student art contest and an awards ceremony.

As a member of the McDonald’s deliveries committee at the Stamford field office, it is also focused on expanding and improving the presence of the brand in the growing sector of third -party deliveries in the region.

Maria and Josh Kaufman currently reside in Huntington, NY, with their two daughters, Hannah and Mia. Hannah, the eldest daughter, currently works at her McDonald’s restaurant in East Northport, making her the fourth generation of the family who has worked at McDonald’s.
