Who hasn’t argued over something stupid, misinterpreted a comment, or discovered that living with someone can be quite a challenge? In these situations, Saulo García finds the perfect material to make people laugh in Parejas disparejas: Lo chistoso del amor, the new comedy by the Colombian actor and comedian that will arrive at Repertorio Español on November 20, under the direction of Juan Carlos Talero.
With his characteristic humor, García invites the audience to laugh at those scenes of romantic life that are all too familiar: the butterflies of courtship, the differences that appear when living together, the challenges of marriage and even the entanglements of a divorce. Because, when it comes to love, sometimes a small difference is all it takes to spark a great story.
The play combines endearing characters, original songs and improvisation to turn the couples’ everyday experiences into comic situations. Instead of relying on the typical confrontations between men and women, the show is based on the particularities of real relationships and those moments when laughing at yourself can be the best way out.
García’s return also marks a new chapter in his career with Repertorio Español. Uneven Couples: The Funny Thing of Love is his twelfth production with the company, where he has presented proposals that connect with the public through humor, observation of daily life and characters with whom it is easy to identify.
The comedy will premiere on Friday, November 20 at 7 pm and will continue on Saturday the 21st at the same time and on Sunday the 22nd at 3 pm. In December, there will be performances on Friday the 18th and Saturday the 19th at 7 pm, and on Sunday the 20th at 3 pm. The season will continue in January 2027, with presentations on Friday the 8th and Saturday the 9th at 7 pm, and on Sunday the 10th at 3 pm.
Those looking for a different plan to share with their partner, friends or family during the holiday season can find in this play an opportunity to enjoy theater and recognize, amidst laughter, some of the most absurd and fun situations of love.
The performances will take place at Repertorio Español, located at 138 E. 27th St., in Manhattan. Tickets are available at repertoire.nyc or by phone at 212-225-9999.
