Nassau Girl Scouts Unite Community in Family Run and Walk

Girl Scouts of Nassau County (GSNC) hosted the sweetest event of the season: the Thin Mint Sprint 5K Race and Family Fun Walk at Jones Beach State Park.

The event on Sunday, September 14 brought together hundreds of enthusiastic runners, walkers and families who enjoyed the picturesque scenery during Girl Scouts Love State Parks weekend, while raising funds to support Girl Scouts of Nassau in their mission to raise girls with courage, confidence and character who will make the world a better place.

“The Thin Mint Sprint has quickly become a favorite tradition, combining exercise, fun and community support,” said Rande Bynum, CEO of Girl Scouts of Nassau County. “It’s amazing to see families and friends celebrate together while ensuring that every girl has access to the Girl Scout experience.”

This year’s event raised more than $10,000 for GSNC, helping ensure that all girls can participate in Girl Scouts and have access to transformative experiences that inspire them to achieve great things, regardless of their background or economic status.

More than 400 runners and walkers of all ages participated in the Girl Scout cookie-themed event. Each participant crossed the finish line with a box of Thin Mints in hand, a sweet reminder of the cause they supported.

GSNC thanks the participants, volunteers, and sponsors who made this event possible, strengthening ties within the community and creating opportunities for girls to grow, lead, and thrive.

Following the success of the Thin Mint Sprint, GSNC will continue to bring girls and the community together this fall through events like Learn to Fly with American Airlines, the annual STEM conference, the Raise a Glass fall fundraiser, and many more.

In this way, Girl Scouts make their dreams come true and work together to build a better world.

Through programs in Nassau County, on Long Island, and from coast to coast, Girl Scouts of all backgrounds and abilities can be their unapologetic selves as they discover their strengths and prepare to take on new challenges, whether they want to reach the top of a tree or be the best in their class, go on hikes, advocate for climate justice, or make their first best friends.
