María Conchita Alonso reinvents her classic “caressed me” with the tropical rhythm of the Sonora Santanera

María Conchita Alonso turns on the music scene with “Careciame (Salsa)”, an explosive tropical version of one of the most emblematic themes of her career, this time with the legendary Sonora Sonora Santanera. In an exclusive interview with NY news, the artist reveals to us how this new single marks the beginning of a vibrant and deeply personal stage, where he honors his Latin roots and demonstrates that the sensuality and charism that made it an icon in the 80s remain more alive than ever.

Owner of a multifaceted race that has taken her from the musical scenarios to the Hollywood screens, María Conchita has always been a bold figure, passionate and without filters. With successes such as Copa Night, La Crazy and the original version of Carenic Me, he conquered an entire generation, and now returns with a project full of rhythm, color and flavor, produced by the renowned Fabián Rincón and distributed by Altafonte.

“Caressed me (sauce)” not only reinterprets a classic; It elevates it with the unmistable seal of the Sonora Santanera and an interpretation loaded with emotion, rhythm and sensuality. For María Conchita, this return to tropical music is much more than a sound experiment: it is a reunion with its essence. In this exclusive conversation, he tells us about how the project was born, of his connection with the Caribbean rhythms, of his most intimate memories and what he still makes it sing – and living – with passion.

If you ever let yourself be carried away, prepare: now you will want to dance it.

María Conchita, “Carta Me” is one of your great career. What led you to reimagine it now in salsa version?

This arose after they invited me to sing with the Sonora Dinamita and with the Sonora Santanera in a show in Mexico. At first I refused because I didn’t like the sauce, but my manager convinced me. After I had a good time and I had so much fun, with a precious energy that the public loved, it was there that my manager suggested to record with them. Thus came the idea of recording an entire album, which is called warm me, and the first single is to caress me sauce.

When you recorded “caress me” for the first time, you were a woman in full artistic explosion. How was it to connect with that song from the woman you are today?

I think he caresses me, he has never left my life. It was not to connect again, because it has always been here with me; It is one of the songs that everyone demands that I sing. It is such a beautiful song that many artists have recorded it, and although I did not write it, it is my song. When I sing, I sing with feeling. No matter how rhythm it is; As long as every word I say, that makes the song remain what it is: sensual, regardless of the rhythm.

You mention that this project is a way to honor the music of the place where you were born and grew up. What memories or emotions do these tropical rhythms awaken?

I must have them in my blood, because I never thought I was going to enjoy so much music, since I never listened to it. But now that I did it, I realized that I carry it in my blood; They are my roots.

This launch marks the beginning of a new album. What else can you tell us about this project and the other topics that will include?

There are 11 songs and I have been recorded five, of which ten are my songs, which I made known. I’m also going to make a Sonora song. They are all tropical. Something that taught me is that the tropical genre is like the trunk of a tree, and each branch is different: it can be sauce, cumbia, cha cha chá or meringue, and that is what warm me will offer me.

The video clip also promises a fun and theatrical aesthetic. What can you tell us about your recording and concept?

I wanted to make a video where the protagonists were us. A video that will show union, energy, happiness, taste and laughter between us, and that was how it was. I am very happy because it was as I wanted me to be.

After so many years of career, what is more excited about this stage? What message do you want to leave the public with this new version of “Carenic Me”?

While one does in life what makes you fill you, whatever gives you pleasure, what makes you laugh and have fun, you can’t call work. I am lucky that still, at this point in my life, I can continue enjoying what I like so much: sing in public, act and compose. And I will continue to do it as long as I continue enjoying it. What is going to stop me will be when no more sung or acting.

At this stage of your life, what caresses your soul? What things are filled with joy or make you dance without thinking?

My animals, and pray too. I have a foundation that helps animals in Venezuela, which is called Vee Fauna. Doing this, although at the same time it gives me a lot of pain for the amount of tragedies that occur day by day, it also gives me the satisfaction of knowing what I can do to help the life of that animal and its activist be better.

Do you have plans to visit New York City?

That is the idea. The idea is to travel with La Sonora, although we have to prepare quite well because they do not stop working. I also have Gilberto Santa Rosa as a guest, and it would be wonderful that we can coincide in one of my concerts in New York.
