March in Hempstead rejects ICE rays and racial discrimination

Dozens of activists and immigrant defenders marched in the Villa de Hempstead, in Long Island, demanding the end of the raids executed by the United States Immigration and Customs Control Service (known as “ICE” for its acronym in English).

Out Ice! He resonated strong in the march held on the morning of Sunday, June 29. The members of the local community demonstrated to protest against the operations of the ICE agents and against racial discrimination suffered by the Hispanic immigrant population of this New York area.

«It is a manifestation to demand ‘Ice out’ (‘outside ICE’) of our communities! We want ICE to leave our schools, firefighters, police, workplaces, business, streets and parking lots of Home Depot! ”, The participants in the march claimed.

They gathered in the parking lot of the Rosa Parks bus terminal, at the corner of Washington and Main Street, and from there they marched through the main commercial areas of Hempstead, where there have been raids. They walked almost a mile to The Home Depot store located in Fulton Avenue, where, according to ICE agents they have made multiple arrests in the parking lot.

«During the last weeks and months, we have suffered a series of ICE brutals in Long Island, including the areas of Hempstead, Unionndale, Freeport, Roosevelt, Westbury and more. Masked and armed men grab people and force them to climb to vehicles without identification, without a court order or respect for due process, ”demands the organizers.

They alert that “the raids against the daylife of the Home Depots of Hempstead and Freeport clearly demonstrate that the ICE agents seek to comply with the goal of arrests of 3000 people per day established by Stephen Miller” (one of the most radical ideologues about immigration in the Trump administration), “and are more than willing to apply racial profiles to reach their quotas.”

«Meanwhile, Nassau County spends counting resources to support this chase. And we, workers, businessmen, students and families of Nassau County, suffer the consequences, while our elected officials do not take measures to protect us, ”they claim.
