From Brazil to New York: “Passion according to Janair”
From November 6 to 23, 2025
Schedules according to function | HERE Arts Center, 145 Sixth Avenue, SoHo, NYC
Group Dot BR, the only Brazilian theater company in New York, premieres Off-Off-Broadway “The Passion According to Janair”, starring Ana Carbatti and directed by Andressa Furletti. Inspired by the novel by Clarice Lispector, the work puts Janair, an Afro-Brazilian domestic worker, at the center, transforming her silent presence into a symbol of resistance and dignity. The piece explores themes of race, class, gender and labor, bringing the original narrative into a contemporary dialogue about equity and visibility.
Prior to the premiere, there will be a special conversation on October 29 at the CUNY Graduate Center, and community voice and movement workshops inspired by the Afro-Latino tradition will be offered throughout November.
