Legislator Russell Celebrates Grand Opening of Ortiz Academy in Westbury

Nassau County Legislator Viviana L. Russell proudly participated in the grand opening celebration of Ortiz Academy in Westbury, Long Island on June 27.

During a day filled with traditional lion dancing, blessings and live demonstrations, Russell presented an official recognition from the Nassau Legislature to the center’s owner, Raul Ortiz Jr. – eighth-generation Grand Master of the “Seven Star Mantis” kung-fu style – to commemorate this special occasion.

When asked what the goal of martial arts is, Sifu Ortiz responded, “In addition to learning self-defense, we focus on living a healthy lifestyle. Our goal is to turn men, women and children into the best version of themselves; to be better every day than we were yesterday,” he noted.

“Raul’s life story is a shining example of how martial arts can empower our youth to overcome life’s challenges and embark on a rewarding path that enriches themselves and others,” said Legislator Russell.

“I am very grateful for the invitation to celebrate this important milestone and I wish all the members of the Ortiz Academy many years of success and fulfillment serving the Westbury community,” exclaimed the Democratic official representing Westbury.
