José Martínez will present your English is great, but… at the 19th Hispanic/Latin Book Fair in Queens

The journalist and winning author of the Emmy Award, José Martínez, will present his first book, Your English Is Great, But…, at the 19th Hispanic/Latin Book Fair in Queens, New York, which will take place from October 10 to 12, 2025 at the Renaissance Charter School in Jackson Heights.

Martínez will participate on Saturday, October 11 at 3:10 pm, along with the authors Miguel Fálquez-Cartain and Leslies Farrán, to share readings and reflections on identity, language and community.

“This presentation is especially significant because it will be in Jackson Heights,” Martínez said. “This neighborhood is full of memories of my childhood and my years as a reporter in the newspaper and Ny1 News. Back to present my book here is a real return home.”

Your English Is Great, But… is Martínez’s most personal work: a collection of memories and essays that reflect on language, migration, duel and the sense of belonging. Published under its Independent Nyc seal, the book has been highlighted in literary circles and community conversations about identity and cultural inheritance.

The Hispanic/Latin Book Fair in Queens, organized by the Hispanic/Latino Cultural Center of New York, celebrates its 19th anniversary in 2025. The event brings together writers, poets, academics and community members in three days of panels, readings and cultural presentations. This year, the fair will be dedicated to the Dominican writer Dagoberto López-coño.
