Governor Kathy Hochul announced a major program at Jones Beach State Park for Memorial Day weekend, commemorating the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution, with free parking for easy access for families.
The event set for Saturday, May 23 and Sunday, May 24 will feature a historic village with re-enactments from 1776, depicting various events from the past and illustrating the way of life of that time.
Cultural exhibits will highlight Long Island’s role in the American Revolutionary War. This “Recreation Village” will be located between parking areas 3 and 4, with hours from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.
There will also be good live music both days and a nighttime air show of up to 1,000 illuminated drones to close the Sunday program.
The initiative seeks to celebrate the history of the state of New York and offer free and accessible activities to kick off the summer season on Long Island.
It should be noted that Memorial Day weekend marks the beginning of the beach bathing season within Jones Beach State Park. For more information on schedules and activities, visit https://parks.ny.gov/visit/state-parks/jones-beach-state-park .

And then a 20-minute drone aerial light show, produced by Grizzly Entertainment, will begin. The animations will include patriotic symbols and images to celebrate the nation’s 250th anniversary and pay tribute to military personnel.
