The Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti, current coach of Real Madrid, will be the next national coach of Brazil, with a contract until the 2026 World Cup, as announced by the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF).
The president of the CBF, Ednaldo Rodrigues, said that Ancelotti “is the best coach in history and is now in charge of the best team on the planet.”
The hiring of Italian “is a statement to the world that we are determined to recover the first position of the podium,” said Rodrigues in a statement.
The announcement takes place one day after Real Madrid’s defeat 4-3 against FC Barcelona in a direct duel for the Spanish League title, which left the Barca team to the edge of proclaiming himself champion, which could happen this Wednesday if the whites do not overcome Mallorca.
The coach “Carletto” Ancelotti will lead Brazil in his next matches, against Ecuador (June 5) and Paraguay (June 10), corresponding to the South American Qualifiers of the 2026 World Cup.
The CBF announced that Ancelotti will make the call for those matches on May 26, at the agency’s headquarters, in Rio de Janeiro.
The Italian will be the Foreign Technical Fourth at the head of the world’s Pentacampeone team and the first since 1965.
Brazil is without a coach from the dismissal of Junior Dorival following the 4-1 defeat against Argentina, on March 25, also in the World Cup qualifiers.
The “Canarinha” has failed to have stability on the bench since the departure of Tite after the elimination in the Catar World Cup in 2022.
Before Dorival, they sat on the bench of Brazil Ramón, Menezes and Fernando Diniz, both as interim and without successes.
The ‘Verdeamarela’ is in the fourth position of the South American Qualifiers, with 21 points, and takes six from advantage to Venezuela, seventh placed and first outside the direct classification squares.
Argentina, the only South American team that has guaranteed at the moment its presence in the 2026 World Cup, leads the table with 31 points, eight more than Ecuador and ten more than Uruguay and Brazil when five days remain to be played.
They thank Madrid
The president of the Brazilian Soccer Confederation (CBF), Ednaldo Rodrigues, expressed his gratitude to Real Madrid on Monday for the “support” he has given the signing of Italian Carlo Ancelotti as the new Brazilian coach.
“I want to thank the president of Real Madrid, Florentino Pérez, and José Ángel (Sánchez, general director of the Spanish club) for all the understanding, dialogue and support, which made this transaction possible,” Rodrigues declared in a video broadcast after confirmed the hiring of the coach.
The leader said that Ancelotti will assume the Brazilian team in the South American Qualifiers “and also in the World Cup next year”, and that “it will fulfill its commitment to Real Madrid until the end of the Spanish League season.”
According to the CBF, the Italian coach will debut on the bench of the National Team on June 5, when Brazil will visit Ecuador in Guayaquil, for the South American Qualifiers of the 2026 World Cup.
Five days later, he will have his first encounter with the Brazilian fans, in a match against Paraguay, also corresponding to the World Cup qualifiers and that will be played at the Neo Chemistry Arena stadium, by São Paulo.

Great palmarés of “Carletto”
The Brazilian team, the only one with five World Cups, already has the technician who wanted two and a half years: Carlo Ancelotti, the coach with more titles in Real Madrid and one of the most laureate in history.
The Italian coach, who will turn 66 in June, faces his first challenge at the head of a national team, and not anyone: the “Canarinha.”
A “Seleção” in crisis, an orphan of great leaders from the sunset of Neymar, lost in their game and with a hobby that has moved away with each stumble in the last international tournaments.
These are the main titles and records of “Carletto”:
It is one of the technicians with the most titles. The former reggiolo soccer player has won a total of 31 titles since he began his career on the benches in the 90s.
That figure places him in the Olympus of the coaches with best palmarés, only behind Mircea Luzcu (35), Pep Guardiola (39) and Alex Ferguson (49), according to the data of the Besoccer platform.
These are the trophies he has raised in his career as a technician:
5 Champions League, 5 European Super Cups, Club World Cup, 2 Leagues of Spain, 2 Cups of the King, 2 Super Cups of Spain, 2 Germany Super Cup, 1 Series A of Italy, 1 Premier League, 1 Ligue 1 of France, 1 Bundesliga, 1 Intercontinental Cup of FIFA, 1 Inteto, 1 Coppa Italia, 1 FA cup, 1 Community Shield and 1 Italy Supercopa.
In addition, Ancelotti is the most laureate technician in the history of Real Madrid, with 15 titles. He has directed the white team in two stages: between 2013 and 2015, and between 2021 and this 2025.
And he is the coach with more Champions won. Among the thirty trophies as a technician, they shine above all their 5 European champions (‘Champions League’). He is the only one who has been able to reach that number. Three with Real Madrid (2014, 2022 and 2024) and two with AC Milan (2003 and 2007).
In addition, he added two more as a player, in 1989 and 1990, in that Milan of Gullit, Van Basten, Rijkaard, Maldini and company, directed by Arrigo Sacchi, one of his great sources of inspiration.
But he is also the coach with more UEFA competitions won, with 11 titles: 5 Champions, 5 European Super Cups and 1 Intertoto.
