Huntington’s Prom project makes the dreams of the graduation night

The Huntington City Council greatly celebrated its annual “graduation project” (“Project prom”), an inspired day dedicated to ensuring that all high school students have the opportunity to enjoy a magical and unforgettable graduation night.

Directed by Supervisor Ed Smyth and Councilor Theresa Mari, and organized in collaboration with the 2nd. Suffolk County Police Department Police Station and the Huntington Youth Office, this activity carried out on April 30 transformed the John J. Flanagan Center into a vibrant boutique of beautiful clothes for the graduation party.

More than 50 students from all the Huntington Town school districts attended, as well as the neighboring communities of Islip, Brentwood, Smithtown and others.

Each of the students went happy with everything they need: dresses, costumes, shoes, ties, wallets and jewels, all provided at no cost.

“This was a truly beautiful night to remember,” said Councilwoman Mari. «Seeing the joy in the faces of the students by finding the perfect attire for graduation was absolutely moving. The Project Prom demonstrates what we can achieve when our community joins to support each other with kindness, dignity and affection, ”he said.

This year’s collection included more than 450 formal garments, both new and used, generously donated by community members, companies and organizations such as the Commack School District, Macy’s, Bloomingdale’s, Estelle’s Dressy Dresses, Reworld, Northwell, The Bridal Shoppe in Huntington Village and Moonjumpers, among many others.

In addition to the local impact, Huntington Town donated more than 300 dresses and costumes to schools and religious institutions in the counties of Queens and Brooklyn, further expanding the scope of this important program.

To make the night even more special, Starbucks generously donated drinks for all attendees, which contributed to creating a festive and cozy environment that students will remember for years.
