Huntington fights heat in pools, parks, beaches and ‘cooling centers’

As a community service and to combat high temperatures, the Huntington City Council allows local residents to use the aquatic parks (Spray Parks) for free in Manor Field Park and in Elwood Park during the current heat wave (until June 25).

It is required to show proof of address. These parks will be open from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm during this period.

“For some of our residents, staying fresh during these frequent summer heat waves can be a challenge,” said Huntington supervisor Ed Smyth. “Offering aquatic parks to our residents with children is the best community service: convenient, safe, fun and, for now, free,” he said.

The Spray Parks will return to their usual schedule with the municipal recreation card required on Thursday, June 26. (If the weather allows it, it could be extended).

Also, before the wave of forecast heat, the Huntington City Council also implements the following services and schedules:

– Cooling Center (cooling center): Flanagan Senior Center will be open from Monday to Friday, until 5 pm

– Beaches (only for residents): The Gold Star Battalion, Crab Meadow, West Neck, Hobart and Centerport beaches will be open with lifeguards (lifeguards) up to 8 pm are required beach permits. Residents can visit www.tohbeachpermit.com To obtain a virtual beach permit.

– Dix Hills pool: The DX Hills Pool will also be free for residents during the heat wave (until Wednesday, June 25). Community schedule is Monday (23/6) 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm; Tuesday (24/6) 12:30 pm at 8:00 pm; and Wednesday (24/6) 12:30 pm at 8:00 pm
