In an electrifying heart and effort exhibition, both the female and male team of Hostos consolidated their champions status by capturing the Cuny Community College 2025 basketball championship.
With a season defined by resilience and high -risk moments, the victories of the “caimans” and “Lady Caimans” enlist the stage for an intense tournament in region XV.
«Both teams did a fantastic job on Friday (February 21) and throughout the season. We are proud of their performance and we hope to encourage them during the postseason, ”said Brent Wilson, director of Athletics of Community College.
Double host victories have established a high standard and have generated immense emotion while both basketball teams prepare the XV Tournament region. Fans and followers can wait a week of high -octane basketball, where each possession counts and every moment can define the way to greater glory.
Lady Caimans
The female hostos team achieved a victory that bite the nails. The “Lady Caimans”, which occupied the number 5 in the country in the survey of the National Association of Youth Athletics (NJCAA), gave a masterful lesson of determination when they faced the Kingsborough Community College, which occupies the number 4.
It should be noted that this victory marks the eighth consecutive championship of Cuny’s basketball for women, which underlines its tireless search for excellence.
The result was decided dramatic in a game in which the impulse ranged from one place to another. With only 2.6 seconds, the number 4 of Hostos, Daja White, scored a triple to seal the victory. White led the load with 23 points, skillfully supported by Sandra Asamoah (10 points), Jozai Vazquez (14 points and 11 rebounds) and Aniyah Robinson (18 points and 13 rebounds).
This exciting victory extended its remarkable record of 22-1 and earned the “Lady Caimans” the coveted number 1 in the tournament of region XV in Kingsborough. The women’s host team will begin the tournament on Saturday, March 1, at 12 pm, against the winner of the Bronx CC/Nassau CC match.

Caimans
The male vaulted qualification marked a wave of victories in the second half. The “Caimans” who faced a first challenging half with a 53-44 score in part time, turned adversity into a triumph with an explosive performance in the second half. Finally, they emerged victorious with a 93-84 score. This last triumph marks CUNY championships consecutive to men.
Harry Bonilla led the comeback with 33 points, the largest amount of the game, while Blake Buckhannan contributed 15 points, Tyrese Conway added 16 points along with 11 rebounds and Justin Umunakwe contributed 17 points. Three other players also reached double figures, demonstrating the depth and determination of the campus.
With this victory, the men assured the number 2 in the Tournament of the XV region, facing at home the Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) on February 25 and winning the semifinals, scheduled for Saturday, March 1, at 6 PM in Kingsborough.
