A Brentwood man claims to have been stopped on the track, registered, retained and handcuffed unjustly by agents of the United States Immigration and Customs Control Service (ICE) in Westbury, on June 3, and his lawyer said that a lawsuit may be presented.
Elzon Lemus, a 23 -year -old electrician born, raised and resident in Brentwood, Long Island, said he was traveling as a passenger in a car on his way to a work when he was arrested for 6 vehicles without identification in Union Avenue in Westbury.
Lemus indicated that an ICE agent approached the car and repeatedly asked his identification (ID). Lemus indicated that the officers told him that it looked like someone they were looking for and that, when he asked for their name and plate number, they did not provide that information.
Lemus declared that he remained handcuff for approximately 20 to 25 minutes, and that neither him nor the other person in the car were allowed to leave the place for at least 1 hour.
Lemus spoke with his lawyer, Frederick Brewington, on Thursday, June 12 in his office. Brewington said that ICE has been racially discriminating against people and that this is a clear example of this.
“There has been a plague in color communities, and to a large extent in the communities of our Hispanic brothers and sisters, which cannot be allowed or allowed to continue,” he said.
The lawyer Brewington indicated that his office is evaluating all legal options. He mentioned the possibility of a lawsuit, although he did not know who it would be.
Brewington’s office shared two videos of the incident: one recorded by Elzon Lemus himself and another by the driver of the vehicle.
The 2 -minute video of Lemus shows at least two agents approaching the vehicle and repeatedly asking for their identification (id.
In the video, the officer told Lemus: “If we do not get his identification, I will have to look for another way to identify him, and that might not be beneficial.”
The video shows the officer by putting his hand in the car and opening the door. Then, he asks Lemus to come out, and the video ends when the officer asks if Lemus has weapons.
Lemus claimed that the officers forced him to turn off the camera. He said that, after the recording stopped, the officers registered it, they took the identification of the pocket and handcuffed him.
The other video shows several officers and cars cornering the car in which Lemus was traveling. “I felt that I lost my rights,” said Lemus.

For his part, the vice president of the state assembly, Phil Ramos, described the “disturbing” video and said he supported Lemus.
“It was a clear violation of rights,” said Ramos. They arrested him without provocation, without explanation and no court order. The only justification offered was that they looked like someone they were looking for. That is not the application of the law, it is racial discrimination, ”he said.
The Nassau County Police declared not to be involved in the incident and refused to comment.
The attempts to obtain comments from the ICE were unsuccessful.
Elzon Lemus’s accusations occur at a time when the presence of ICE agents has been reported throughout Nassau County, in Long Island, NY.
It is worth mentioning that a recent car accident in Westbury, which occurred on Tuesday, June 10, caused approximately 100 people to protest against migratory agents.
Several people were also arrested at Glen Cove on Wednesday, June 11, according to the Police Department of the city of Glen Cove.
