Freestyle in Spanish makes history: Red Bull Battle lashes in New York

Freestyle competition in the world in the world prepares a historical moment: for the first time in two decades, the United States national final will be held in New York, the city where hip-hop was born. The event will bring together the 16 best MCs in the country on Friday, September 26 at the Brooklyn Steel, an emblematic space of the music scene that will now open its doors to the art of improvisation in Spanish.

For 20 years, Red Bull Battle has consolidated as the platform that drives Freestyle’s talents worldwide. Since its inception in Latin America and Spain, competition has traveled different global stages, but had never chosen New York to crown the United States national champion. That the city that gave rise to the rap is now the headquarters of the final underlines the cultural link between hip-hop and the new generations of Spanish-speaking improvisers.

A growing scene

The Freestyle Movement in Spanish within the US has grown up in the last decade, especially in Latin communities of cities such as Miami, Houston, Chicago and New York. This year’s qualifiers made it clear: hundreds of young people filled the enclosures in Chicago and Miami, showing that Freestyle is no longer a marginal phenomenon, but a form of cultural expression that connects identities, migrations and languages.

The road to this end began with more than 8,500 MCs from almost 20 countries that sent their videos in the world registration phase. Only a few achieved the pass to the face -to -face rounds in the US, where the energy of the public marked each battle. The result: a diverse alignment of champions, experienced figures and new voices that will now be measured in New York.

Among the 16 names stands out Adonysx, current national champion, who will seek to revalidate the title after a year of success. It will also be reverse, American two -time champion with international experience. Next to them come emerging figures such as Sourius, who entered as a reservation and surprised in Miami, and uneven, from Denver, who could become the first woman to win a national US final.

The list is completed with regional champions such as Nico B (Miami 2025), Raiiden (New York Cup) and Jordi (Texas Cup), as well as representatives of Houston, Orlando and Los Angeles. The mixture of accents and styles reflects the cultural mosaic of the Hispanic freestyle in the United States.

A weight jury

The responsibility of choosing the new champion will fall on a panel of judges who know firsthand the demand for a battle: Freites, national finalist in 2024; Jay-Co, world runner-up in 2007; and Tito Yang, first Puerto Rican MC to reach a world final. The driving will be in charge of Racso White Lion and Sayonara, with live music by DJ Popeye.

The winner of the night will not only take the title of national champion, he will also represent the United States in the world final, which this year will take place in Chile on April 11. For many MCs, it is about the opportunity of their lives: to compete in local stages to be measured in front of the best improvisers on the planet.

On September 26, Brooklyn will witness a date that will be marked in the history of Hispanic freestyle. New York will not only receive competition; It will host a cultural encounter that unites generations, languages and rhythms under the flag of improvisation.
