Events in Suffolk mark National Breast Cancer Awareness Month

The Suffolk County Cancer Prevention and Health Promotion Coalition joins jurisdictions around the world to commemorate October as “Breast Cancer Awareness Month.”

In the United States, this type of disease is the second leading cause of cancer death in women. The coalition’s vision is to help create a healthier community where cancer and other chronic diseases are minimized.

Therefore, the “Suffolk County Cancer Prevention & Health Promotion Coalition” invites members of the Long Island community to participate in the various local events and activities organized to raise awareness and support the continued fight against breast cancer. These are:

The Suffolk County Office of Women’s Services is hosting a workshop to dispel common myths about breast cancer and offer a comprehensive review of risk factors, with an emphasis on lifestyle.

Participants will receive a guide to Breast Self-Exam and a list of nutritional alternatives to promote long-term healthy habits.
