Brentwood students take top honors in state art competition

Brentwood students earned multiple top-level honors at the 44th. New York State Art Teachers Association’s annual “Visual Arts Olympics” held in Saratoga Springs, NY, where more than 200 teams from across the state showcased their artistic talent and creative problem-solving skills.

«Our Brentwood students never cease to amaze us. Their creativity, imagination and ability to express themselves in such powerful ways is truly inspiring,” said Brentwood Independent School District Superintendent Wanda Ortiz-Rivera.

“Seeing our students receive recognition at the New York State Olympics of the Visual Arts is a moment of immense pride for our entire Brentwood community.”

«These achievements reflect much more than artistic talent; “They reflect teamwork, perseverance, trust and heart,” exclaimed Ortiz-Rivera, of Puerto Rican origin.

It is worth mentioning that over three months, students collaborated on drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, illustration and fashion design projects.

East Middle School took first place in the categories of photography, painting and sculpture; Meanwhile, teams from North Elementary, Twin Pines Elementary, and Southwest Elementary, as well as teams from Brentwood High School, also earned top positions in various categories, including fashion, illustration, and sculpture.

“I am deeply grateful to our teachers for cultivating these gifts,” added Superintendent Ortiz-Rivera, “and to our students for representing Brentwood with such pride, passion and excellence.”
