Ailey II: The next generation of dance returns to New York with a spectacle that unites past and future

From March 26 to April 6, the Ailey Citigroup Theater will witness the vibrant energy of Ailey II, the company that fuses tradition and innovation in two unmissable programs: Echoes and New Vintage. Inputs already available.

New York prepares to receive Ailey II, the dance company that has captivated audiences throughout the country with its overflowing energy and its commitment to artistic innovation. From March 26 to April 6, the Ailey Citigroup Theater will be the scenario where 12 young dancers, considered among the most talented in the country, will show their skill in two dynamic programs: Echoes and New Vintage.

Under the artistic direction of Francesca Harper, Ailey II not only celebrates his sixth decade of existence, but also pays tribute to the legacy of Alvin Ailey, one of the pillars of modern American dance. “We are excited to return to our local stage after an incredible tour,” says Harper. “These programs join the past and the present, showing how each generation shapes the future of dance.”

Echoes: A trip over time

The Echoes program opens on Wednesday, March 26 at 7:30 pm and promises to be an experience that connects generations through narration, cultural preservation and innovation. Among the outstanding works is Luminous, choreographed by Francesca Harper, a piece that celebrates the 50th anniversary of Ailey II and pays tribute to artists who raided the way for future generations.

In addition, the program includes Down The Rabbit Hole’s world premiere by Houston Thomas, a work inspired by the iconic Matrix saga. This piece explores how technology is intertwined with our daily lives, transforming the way we interact and function as human beings. Complete the Streams trilogy of Alvin Ailey, an abstract exploration of the bodies in space, accompanied by a soundtrack of percussion of Miloslav Kabelac.

New Vintage: Tradition and Audacity

On Thursday, March 27, at 7:30 pm, New Vintage arrives, a program that celebrates the evolution of the company by combining works by founding figures with choreographies of contemporary artists. Among the outstanding pieces is a Diving fragment, Judith Jamison’s first choreographic work for Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in 1984.

Ailey Highlights will also be presented, a collection of extracts from three classic works choreographed by Alvin Ailey between 1958 and 1972, and John 4:20, an expanded duet created by Baye & Asa in 2018. The program closes with Down the Rabbit Hole, by Houston Thomas, thus merging the classic with the avant -garde.

A unique opportunity for dance lovers

New Yorkers will have 14 opportunities to enjoy these shows, which have dancers from various parts of the country, from Brooklyn to Houston. Tickets, with prices from $ 62.25, are already on sale and can be purchased at ailey.org/aileyiinyc or by phone at 212-405-9082.

Each program has an approximate duration of an hour and 45 minutes, including two intermediates, which guarantees a complete experience for the public.

Alvin Ailey’s legacy

Founded in 1974, Ailey II has been a bridge between The Ailey School and the professional world of dance, embodying Alvin Ailey’s mission to create an inclusive cultural community. Under the direction of Francesca Harper, the company continues to forge an inclusive and experimental path in modern dance.
