From football to comedy: Zuhaitz Gurrutxaga returns with Runner-up to Thalia Spanish Theater
October 29, November 5, 12 and 13, 2026
7:00 PM
After the good reception from the public, the former Spanish soccer player Zuhaitz Gurrutxaga returns to Thalia Spanish Theater with Subcampeón, an autobiographical monologue that combines humor, absurd situations and personal experiences. The artist shares his journey in professional football, from his achievements with the Spanish national team and Real Sociedad to the difficulties he silently faced with anxiety, depression and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).
With a raw, brave and humorous look, Gurrutxaga transforms his sporting failures, his personal misadventures and his mental health problems into a comedy that alternates laughter and moments of reflection. The show will have four special performances in Sunnyside: two in Spanish, on October 29 and November 13, and two in English, on November 5 and 12. Tickets are $25 and there are special rates for groups.

Bachate me New York! brings together Luis Vargas and Monchy in the Bronx
November 14, 2026
8:00 PM
Bachata lovers have an appointment on Saturday, November 14 at the Lehman Center for the Performing Arts with ¡Bachatéame New York!, a concert that will bring together for the first time in this venue two prominent figures of the genre: Luis Vargas, known as El Rey Supremo, and Monchy, a member of the legendary duo Monchy & Alexandra. Both will perform hits such as “La Traicionera”, “Se Gana y Se Pierde” and “Fantasías” in an evening that will combine romanticism, guitars and Dominican rhythms.
With more than four decades of experience, Luis Vargas has contributed to transforming bachata by fusing traditional bolero with electric guitars and merengue rhythms. Monchy conquered the international public with songs like “Hoja en Blanco”, “Dos Locos” and “No Es Una Novela”, before continuing his career as a soloist. The concert will celebrate the evolution of bachata and the legacy of two artists who have brought this Dominican genre to audiences around the world.
