Three high school students from the New York metropolitan area—Angel Betancourt, Christian Rattray and Daniel Rojas—were crowned champions of the inaugural “Series Youth Series” tournament. McDonald’s New York Metro Foosball«, held in Midtown Manhattan.
Hosted by the owners and operators of McDonald’s New York Metro in collaboration with Foosball Clubs USA, the free community program was inspired by the excitement of the recent FIFA World Cup and invited youth ages 12 to 18 from New York City, Long Island and New Jersey to participate in a series of qualifying tournaments designed to foster teamwork, healthy competition and community involvement.
He football championship brought together the top 8 finalists who advanced after competing in regional qualifying tournaments held at different McDonald’s restaurants located in Manhattan, the Bronx, Brooklyn, Long Island and the neighboring state of New Jersey.
In the final of the event held on July 17, Angel Betancourt won the title of champion and a $5,000 educational scholarship, Christian Rattray received a $2,000 educational scholarship for second place and Daniel Rojas obtained a $1,000 educational scholarship for third place.
In addition to the educational scholarships, the first three places received an Xbox console and a McDonald’s Arch Card.
It should be noted that the 8 finalists were recognized for their outstanding participation with a commemorative trophy and a soccer ball autographed by the star of the United States Men’s National Team, Christian Pulisic, in recognition of their achievement and the spirit of soccer that inspired the entire series of foosball tournaments.
Foosball (or foosball) is played on a rectangular table with small figures of players mounted on rotating bars, which are manipulated to simulate a soccer match. You have to show agility, speed and talent to score goals and achieve victories.
Organizers report that all foosball tables used during this program will be donated to local youth organizations once the series ends.
