Governor Kathy Hochul released the annual results of the New York Small Business Development Centers (SBDC), highlighting the strong support provided to small businesses and entrepreneurs throughout the state of New York.
These SBDC centers empower entrepreneurs through free, personalized business advice, training and research that drive state economic growth.

Last year, the New York Small Business Development Center provided personalized advice and training to 27,414 businesses and entrepreneurs, helped generate $218.8 million in new capital, supported the retention of 31,282 jobs, and helped create 3,392 new jobs.
“Small Business Development Centers across New York State are helping New Yorkers turn good ideas into thriving small businesses,” said Governor Hochul.
“From Long Island to Niagara Falls, and from the Upstate to the Southern Tier, these centers are empowering small businesses and entrepreneurs to grow, achieve career success, and create jobs in their local communities. I will continue to use every resource at my disposal to help New York’s workers and job creators thrive.”
It should be mentioned that the New York SBDC is administered by the State University of New York (SUNY) and has a presence in 20 different institutions throughout the state, which facilitates the connection of educational institutions with a broad state network of small businesses.
The SBDC provides comprehensive support to all sectors – including technology, manufacturing, retail, agriculture and artificial intelligence – guiding companies through every stage of their life cycle, from creation and expansion to succession planning.
Throughout its more than 40 years of service, the Small Business Development Centers have served more than 550,000 entrepreneurs, helping to generate an economic impact of nearly $9 billion for New York State.
“The New York Small Business Development Centers are engines of progress for thousands of New Yorkers, providing vital support to emerging entrepreneurs as they work to build the business of their dreams,” said State University of New York Chancellor John B. King Jr.
“Thanks to strong support from leaders like Governor Hochul and federal and state partners, this program has had a transformative impact on entrepreneurs across the state. “SUNY is committed to the economic development of communities across the state, and SBDCs are a critical part of our efforts to strengthen New York’s economy.”
For her part, Sonya Smith, State Director of the New York SBDC, commented: “SBDC clients have a five-year survival rate of 80%, well above the national average. “They grow faster, hire more people and achieve better results than companies that operate on their own.”
