Vívelo LI: Painting exhibition at Suffolk County Community College

Vívelo LI: Painting Exhibition at SCCC
From November 13 / 10 AM – 4 PM

Suffolk County Community College presents “Hymns, Highways and Cosmic Journeys,” an exhibition of recent paintings by guest artist Fred Fleisher.

The event is open through December 18 at the Flecker Gallery, located in the Southampton Building on SCCC’s Ammerman Campus.

The opening of this exhibition is on November 13 with an artist talk, at 2 pm ET, followed by a reception that will last until 5:30 pm. Refreshments will be offered and admission is free.

It should be noted that Fred Fleisher, a Brooklyn-based contemporary painter and United States Army veteran, creates vivid, dreamlike works that blur the line between fantasy and reality.

His paintings fuse pop culture imagery with vibrant, surreal landscapes that unfold like an imaginative American road trip, inviting the viewer into a world where memory, humor, and myth converge.

Fleisher’s artistic practice encompasses painting, sculpture, installation and temporary art, often reinterpreting the familiar narratives of consumer culture.

Currently, Fleisher is an associate professor of art at SUNY Old Westbury and holds an MFA from Queens College, as well as a BFA (Painting and Drawing) and a BFA in Art Education from Pennsylvania State University.

His work has been shown nationally and internationally, with solo exhibitions in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Hudson (New York), Berlin, and Chicago. He has also participated in numerous group exhibitions and was lead curator of the SPRING/BREAK art fair in Los Angeles.

The “Anthems, Highways, & Cosmic Roadtrips” exhibition will feature a catalog that includes an essay by Chris Bors.

Flecker Gallery hours are Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., by appointment. Free entry.
