Vice President Phil Ramos will give backpacks for the return to classes in Brentwood

The vice president of the New York State Assembly, Phil Ramos, will offer a free backpack delivery event for the return to classes, in collaboration with local organizations, activity to be carried out this Saturday, August 16, at 4:30 pm, in the Roberto Clemente Park, located in 400 Broadway Avenue, Brentwood, NY 11717.

This “Back-To-School Backpack Giveaway” event will provide essential school supplies to students, just in time when Hispanic Long Island families prepare for the imminent new school season 2025, in the midst of the increase in prices of various basic articles.

It should be noted that after this important gift from hundreds of backpacks to children and young people, the afternoon at Roberto Clemente Park will continue with a pleasant Free community concert (at 5:30 pm) to sing and dance outdoors.

The organizers indicate that all children must be present to receive a backpack. Admission is free to all activities.

In addition to the Assemblyman Phil Ramos, the Embace R relief organizations, the Association of Latin Teachers of Long Island (Lilta), Federal Four Leaf Credit Cooperative, Human Services of Eihab, ICNA Relief and the Turkish Cultural Center of New York.

“The success of our children begins with the right tools from day one,” said Ramos. “Representation and support are essential for young people to see their own success as something attainable. Like the first Latin to occupy the position of vice president, I am proud to support families in the same situation in which I was,” he added.

Ramos represents the 6th District of the Assembly, which includes Brentwood, North Bay Shore and Central Islip. In 2023, he became the first Latin vice president in the history of the New York State Assembly and, in 2025, he was appointed Dean of the Long Island delegation.

Ramos, of Puerto Rican inheritance, is also part of the “Nodriza Nodriza” Budget Group of the Assembly, where it defines the budget priorities of New York and ensures resources for Long Island.
