Uniondale student selected to All-Long Island basketball team

Uniondale High School senior Zahara Saintyl was recently named to the 2026 All-Long Island girls basketball second team, as selected by Newsday.

With an average of 20.5 points per game, Zahara ranked as the second leading scorer in Nassau County and, when combining this figure with her impressive 10 rebounds per game, she recorded a “double-double” average. Likewise, he demonstrated great defensive skill, averaging 3 steals per game.

“Zahara was named to Newsday’s list of the top 100 girls basketball players to watch, both as a junior and as a senior (Senior),” said Uniondale High School girls basketball coach Nolan Dunkley. “She was the captain of the team for the last two years and exhibited exemplary leadership and character.”

In addition to her success throughout the 2025–2026 regular season, the 6-foot-1 forward shined during the postseason.

In the two playoff games played by Uniondale, Zahara averaged 26 points, 12 rebounds, three assists and four steals per game.

Zahara has also seen notable successes both academically and on the volleyball court at Uniondale High School.

He was among the 25 students with the best academic performance in his class and has excelled in numerous Advanced Level (AP) courses.

She was the only captain in the history of the high school girls’ volleyball program to hold the position for two consecutive years, and was named to Newsday’s 2025 list of Long Island’s Top 100 High School Volleyball Players.

Following her impending graduation from Uniondale High School, Zahara plans to attend college to major in Biology and train to become a doctor.
