With the goal of ensuring that all students have the essential items to start the 2026-27 school year off on the right foot, Nassau County Legislature Minority Deputy Speaker Debra Mulé (D – Freeport) and Legislator Scott M. Davis (D – Rockville Centre) have teamed up with Leon Levar Broughton, owner of TRIMZ Barber Shop, to host the 21st. annual edition of the “CUTZ FOR EDU” school donation event.
The activity is aimed at students in Legislative Districts 1 and 6 and will take place on Saturday, August 22, from 11 am to 4 pm, at the TRIMZ Barber Shop (Freeport Village Municipal Parking Lot #10, behind the establishment) at 20 Guy Lombardo Avenue, Freeport, NY 11520.
Backpacks and school supplies will be delivered on a first-come, first-served basis. Additionally, participants will have the opportunity to play video games in an equipped truck, enjoy music from DJ Sour, face painting and light refreshments, as well as receive free haircuts from TRIMZ Barber Shop, sneakers from Heeling Soles, school supplies and other essential items while supplies last.
Other attractions will include an ice cream truck, cotton candy, a bouncy castle and more.
It is emphasized that children and adults must be present together when receiving haircuts and picking up school supplies, sneakers and other items.
It is worth noting that for more than two decades, CUTZ FOR EDU has prepared numerous local youth to begin the school year with confidence. Its longevity and success is based on a long-standing collaboration between Broughton and former Nassau Legislature Minority Leader Kevan Abrahams; This initiative has been continued by legislators who have subsequently served Freeport and its surrounding communities.
