The Nassau County Health Department has been recognized by the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) with three national awards for innovative public health programs serving county residents.
This Department received a “Model Practice” award for its *Talk About TB* campaign and two “Promising Practice” awards for its Health Information Card Program and its influencer-amplified maternal mental health campaign.
The NACCHO Model Practices program recognizes innovative local public health programs that effectively address community health needs. Model Practices demonstrate exemplary results, while Promising Practices highlight innovative approaches with great potential.
The Department received a “Model Practice” award for “Talk About TB,” a communications campaign that increased awareness of tuberculosis, reduced stigma, and encouraged testing and treatment through clear and effective messages.
The Nassau County Health Department received a top “Promising Practice” award for its Health Information Card Program, a preparedness initiative developed with the County Executive’s Office and local legislators that helps residents organize important medical information and feel more prepared in an emergency.
The Department also received a “Promising Practice” award for its influencer-amplified maternal mental health campaign, which used local voices to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and connect mothers and families to trusted mental health resources.
Since 2013, the Nassau County Health Department has earned 28 Model and Promising Practice awards, reflecting the Department’s continued role as a national leader in local public health practice.
