The Thalia Spanish Theater in Queens begins its 2026 season with a top-notch musical, following the tradition of its tango productions, which have earned it numerous awards, including the Latin Grammy.
From March 5 to 29, TANGOmania comes to the iconic Sunnyside venue with a love triangle full of tango, music, singing and dancing. This love story transports us from the Golden Age in Buenos Aires, through its worldwide popularity in Paris and New York, to a contemporary Argentina transformed with the “Nuevo Tango”. Buenos Aires nostalgia, dreams and illusions are present in this moving story.
In fact, the colorful promotional poster for TANGOmania brings us closer to the Buenos Aires neighborhood of La Boca, in Buenos Aires.
March is International Women’s Month, so the public will enjoy this new tango proposal, created by the Venezuelan Marga Jaurena, renowned tango singer, and Angel Gil Orrios, artistic director of the Thalia.
It should be noted that TANGOmania is part of Teatro Fest NYC 2026, taking place from February 27 to April 30. The festival is presented by the Alliance of Latino Theaters of New York and has the support of the Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment (MOME), among others.
Teatro Fest NYC will include works by IATI Theater, Pregones/PRTT, Repertorio Español, Teatro Círculo, Teatro SEA, The People’s Theatre, Teatro LATEA, ID Studio Theater, INTAR and Thalia Spanish Theatre. In total, there will be 24 productions distributed among the ten theaters that make up the Alliance.
TANGOmania fuses classic and contemporary tangos into an exciting and visually stunning stage experience. Featuring world-class dancers, the show highlights the precision, elegance and emotional power of this iconic dance, declared a World Cultural Heritage Site by UNESCO.
