Colombian Christian González, cornerback of the New England Patriots, acknowledged that he has not yet processed the victory in the American Conference (AFC) final that took his team to Super Bowl LX, this February 8.
“I don’t think I’ve fully processed it yet. I still think about that great victory for the entire team. Everyone helped win. Offense, defense, special teams. It was a lot of fun. It was true playoff football,” the defender declared to the EFE agency.
The 2026 Super Bowl title will be contested by the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks franchises at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara (California). In this great sporting event there will be presented Puerto Rican Bad Bunny animating the halftime show.
González, 23, will become the first player of Colombian origin to appear in an NFL Super Bowl, something of which he expressed great pride through his social media accounts.
The cornerback, who last Sunday contributed with an interception in the 7-10 victory over the Denver Broncos in the AFC final, is essential in the Pats’ secondary defense, to which he arrived drafted in the first round of the 2023 Draft.
“Everything was great on that play. It was snowing. At the moment, I saw the ball in the air, I was on the outside, I reacted very quickly and went for it, it was as if I was playing as a receiver. So, I simply went to meet him, jumped and secured it,” he recalled about the play that clinched the game and his team’s pass to the long-awaited Super Bowl.
After a difficult 2023, in which he fractured his shoulder and a 2024 in which they did not qualify for the playoffs, this campaign was brilliant for González. In 14 games he achieved 69 tackles and 10 passes defended, records that earned him his first call to the Pro Bowl.
“Everything is a result of work. I just want to make the plays that come my way. As a cornerback or deep defensive back you don’t have many opportunities, but when they call you, the team expects you to make the play,” he stressed.
González gave credit for his performance to coach Mike Vrabel, who in his first year at the helm of the Pats has guided them to the duel for the Lombardi trophy.
“A special thanks to Coach Vrabel and the coaching staff. They put us in the right positions, make the right decisions and prepare us for the game,” he said.
He also declared himself proud of the possibility of achieving a seventh Super Bowl for New England, which places them alone, ahead of the Steelers, as the winningest franchise in the NFL.
“It’s something we want to make all the fans proud; after all, this city is known for winning. So being able to collaborate with that definitely makes me happy,” he concluded.

Pats conquered Denver
The New England Patriots beat the Denver Broncos 7-10 and sealed their place in their twelfth Super Bowl LX in a game marked by an intense snow storm that fell on Sunday and practically canceled the game in the second half.
The Patriots had never won a playoff in Denver. The Broncos had won the previous four, including the conference finals of the 2013 and 2015 seasons.
But the storm that broke into a game that had started with sunshine and excellent conditions, added to the obstacle for the Broncos of playing with a quarterback without experience or rhythm, made the Patriots change history this Sunday.
The NFL Super Bowl LX will be played on February 8 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara (California), home of the San Francisco 49ers. It will be the twelfth Super Bowl for the Patriots – no one has played as many – who will seek their seventh Vince Lombardi title to leave the Pittsburgh Steelers behind and thus become the most successful team in history.
The Patriots will have as their rival for the Super Bowl the Seattle Seahawks, who that same Sunday, playing at home, beat the Los Angeles Rams 31-27 in the National Conference final.
In Denver Jarrett Stidham took on an almost impossible mission by taking command of the Broncos who were one step away from the “Super Bowl”, two years after throwing his last touchdown pass.
Bo Nix, the starting quarterback, suffered a shoulder injury in the previous game and had surgery this week.
The challenge for Stidham was enormous, with an almost testimonial playing experience in the NFL despite accumulating seven seasons in the league.
Stidham was very confident at the start and surprised in the Broncos’ second offensive series with two plays of great merit that would put Denver ahead.
First with a 42-yard pass to Marvin Mims and then with a touchdown pass to Courtland Sutton from the end zone. ‘Touchdown’ in a 5-play, 59-yard drive in less than two minutes. Anything was possible in Denver.
After that first score, Stidham had a hard time making plays against the Patriots’ strong defense, while New England, little by little, was generating danger.
The tie came about two minutes before halftime, with a touchdown by Drake Maye on the run from the red zone. Maye, the Patriots’ quarterback, will be the youngest quarterback to start a Super Bowl since Dan Marino.
There was still time for two long field goal attempts before halftime, one for each team, both failed. The wind was beginning to appear in Denver, a prelude to what would be the second half.
When leaving the locker room, snow had begun to fall on Empower Field at Mile High, a snowfall that in a few minutes turned into a strong storm that would prevent visibility and the game.
Venezuelan Andy Borregales scored a field goal from 23 yards in the third quarter, before it was too late. There was time left, but the conditions did not allow for playing.
Both Borregales and Will Lutz each missed another field goal attempt, players were slipping and the offenses were not moving forward. Additionally, the Patriots’ white uniform made them practically invisible.
Stidham could have become a hero in the final moments, but his pass of more than 30 yards to Mims was intercepted by Colombian Christian Gonzalez, perfectly blended into the snow.
